What good news? The capture of Saddam Hussein does nothing at all about any of these continuing problems:- The encouragement of global vendettas among wealthy families
- The perils of American unilateralism
- The American Congress's willingness to go to war in the absence of credible intelligence
- The White House's willingness to fabricate flimsy, forged intelligence in order to go to war under false pretexts
- The accelerating deterioration of the American armed forces and reserves
- The public funding and private profiteering of combat operations
- The looting of the Mideast by neocon strategists and American corporations
- The vulnerability of the American economy and infrastructure
- American responsibility for the new vulnerabilities of the Iraqi economy and infrastructure
- Continuing violence and instability in Iraq
- The American upper class's complete lack of financial or personal stake in invasive military actions, the costs in money and blood having been fully shifted to the middle and lower classes
- The corruption of American democracy and civil liberties
- Anthrax, "Christian" militants, and domestic terrorism
- Existing terrorist threats originating in Afghanistan, Africa, and Asia — and their global financiers
- Future terrorist threats from a number of newly aggravated sources, including thousands of Iraqi children orphaned by the Bush admisnitration in the last nine months
- Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda, and September 11, 2001
War in America has become Monday Night Football. This country, which used to be about something, has been reduced to an ugly mob in a stadium, cheering for and against groups of millionaires who aren't even from their hometown but who siphon money from their pockets with ruthless calculation.
