American Family Association's anti-family values. The AFA's "marriage poll" was obviously intended to show Congress the popularity of bigotry and minority marginalization among their right-wing constituents — by denying adult couples in committed relationships the legal recognitions they deserve.

But their diabolical plan is backfiring on them. So far the results of their efforts show Tolerance beating Intolerance by a margin of almost 2:1. It turns out that poll respondents are more decent and respectful of others' privacy than the AFA bigots anticipated.

Why shouldn't committed adults in any configuration of genders enjoy equal rights with one another? Who deserves legal and social status more — a gay couple, a
divorcing Newt Gingrich, a gambling Bill Bennett, or a Rush Limbaugh in a Denny's parking lot trading his right-wing radio cash for his OxyContin stash?

Normal people don't need the bother of the AFA's moralizing hypocrisy. We're busy trying to live our lives — without the intrusions of abnormal zealots, and without intruding into other adults' pursuit of happiness. Live and let live, period.

Go vote in the damn poll. It only takes a few seconds.
